Growing up on video games and manga during China's economic growth era, Xiang Ru are fascinated by Digimons and early digital aesthetics. They see a transforming innocence embedded in cuteness and clumsy digital graphics. Xiang Ru research beyond human ecosystems and climate urgency. Drawing from Benjamin’s idea of history as ruins, queer kinship, and deep time, Xiang Ru hope to fictionise and fabricate a symbiotic kinship with their surrounding using 3D printing and non-human agents.

Xiang Ru use both bio and digital processes to create worlds in the transformation process.
They use bio-process, such as decay and growth, and non-human agents, such as fungus and spirulina, to queer established forms, forging a creature in transition. Reflecting on materials invented in industrial production, Xiang Ru invite plastic and digitally aided making processes. Using kinetic mechanisms, 3D printing, and found objects, Xiang Ru craft “angelic presence”- Frankensteinish hybrids that are  healing messengers between realms. Xiang Ru have lovingly written a story for each one of them - they are co-actors in Xiang Ru’s world.

Instead of creating autonomous objects, Xiang Ru see their work as a series of networked relations or an ecological web. Sometimes naughty, sometimes cute, the angelic creatures jump between different ecological dynamics, creating a kinship of hope.
