A Biologist’s Table (2025)

A Biologist’s Table is a performance by non-human agents - Blue Oyster mushroom, spirulina, and lava lamp. I let these agents photosynthesis , or in the case of lamp plugged in.

The installation plays on scale and rejects rigid scientific structure. The Enlightenment era celebrates science and human rationality, yet so much bio-movements happen on microscopic level. I see photosynthesis and electron movements as the tiny basic movements that are irrational.

The installation also plays with failure and bio-divergency. I allow badly printed 3D prints - ones rejected by orthodox architectural model to attend the installation, letting spirulina bioplastic to invade its structure (as seen on the sheep model). I let mushroom to grow on obsolete technology that is marked by 2000s childhood.

There is a hint of personal nostalgia from the lava lamp and plastic dog toy - providing an emotional and memory access point.
